On 23^rd September 2015, I spent the day at the old Penlee RNLI Boathouse in Mousehole, Cornwall.

This page carries my tribute to the eight lifeboatmen who died on 19^th December 1981.

With St. Michael’s Mount in the distance and a cormorant perched by the water, this is the view from the old Penlee RNLI Boathouse.

On 19^th December 1981, RNLB Solomon Browne launched down this very slipway into heavy seas carrying eight much-loved crew members, a rescue mission from which they never returned.

It’s hard to imagine a more poignant scene depicting what it really means to be a lifeboat volunteer.

I consider this photograph to be the project’s nod to the tragedy but with gratitude that the service provided by the RNLI carries on to this day and, I’m sure, long into the future.
