1. Really Great Work, Im a photography student and about to document Shoreham lifeboat station for my final university project, would you be able to offer any advice? Thank you

    • Excellent! Make sure you contact the station in good time. Make good use of the RNLI website and the station’s own site to find out the right person to email (usually the LOM or Cox’n). Then write to them describing concisely what you’d like to achieve. Bear in mind stations have lots of photographers who’d like to visit, so be prepared to follow it up with a phone call. I hope it goes well for you – let me know! Jack

  2. Jack,

I saw your work on Countryfile and as a photographer who still shoots, develops and prints my own b&w stuff, I loved your work. So much depth to your shots and fantastic resolution from the LF camera. Do you use wet or dry plates?

  3. Met Jack Lowe this morning at Aberavon with Lifeboat Project van and it was a revelation to hear about his lifeboat project. It is truly amazing and I hope many people will support him along his way.

  11. Great to meet you in Walmer yesterday Jack. Thanks for the time you gave to us all at the station explaining the process and showing the final results. Everyone was blown away with the photos. Good luck with the rest of the project. You’re on the downhill stretch now!

    • Thank you, Chris. It was wonderful to meet you all and such a beautiful station too.

  12. Jack, the memories are fixed! Being able to help with the process really has made a difference. The smells of the process reminded me of the school darkroom all those years ago. Each plate has frozen in time not just an image but the whole event – people, weather, smells, movement, the lot. Accompanied by the Spitfire barrel rolling overhead, quite fantastic!

    • You’ve described the experience so well, Jon. I’m so pleased to hear the impact my visit has made on you and the rest of the crew at Dover! Very best wishes, Jack

  13. Great talk at the Sir Max Aitken Museum last week. Loved the parallel between your work and Beken. Good luck. Caroline

    • Thank you, Caroline. It was wonderful to meet you and glad you enjoyed the talk. Best wishes, Jack

  14. My wife and I met you in Little Haven in Wales a few years back. Good luck with your project. It’s fascinating.

    • Hello Robert, Ah yes, I’m pretty sure I remember — were we chatting by my vehicle nestled among the buildings on the corner? Really pleased that you’re still following. Best wishes, Jack

  15. I LOVE your work – it’s stunning. I’m very intrigued by the project and your photographic processes. Do let me know if your ever up in NE Scotland (Stonehaven is my nearest harbour) as I’d very much like to meet you and see how you achieve such wonderful pieces! Sophia x

    • Thank you, Sophia. I really enjoyed the few weeks I spent on that stretch of coastline in June last year. You can see the photographs I made, including Stonehaven, in the galleries. Thanks again for your interest and kind words. Best wishes, Jack
